Cirk La Putyka

[[Czech Republic///Tschechische Republik]]

[[New Circus///Neuer Zirkus]]

Cirk La Putyka is an ensemble dedicated to contemporary circus. They transcend the lines between acrobatics, contemporary dance, puppetry, concert and sport, striving to create their own specific theatre poetics and find a perspective on the genre as a whole. For Cirk La Putyka, the theme, the story and the message are as important as the professional approach to both - individual theatre genres and circus disciplines.

The company was established in 2009 by the artistic director Rostislav Novák and the managing director Vít Novák. The ensemble has twenty members including actors, musicians, acrobats, puppeteers and dancers; all members are top professionals in their chosen discipline but they are also able to cross the line into several other areas of work. They have several shows in rotation - see below.

ROOTS

The Roots production tells a poetic and at the same time rough history of circus art, told through the personal stories of protagonists.
The first part of the shows demonstrates development of circus from the first half of the twentieth century up to year 1989; its traditions, its linkages, its themes. The second part of the play is inspired by the life stories of its eight protagonists and how they became involved with the world of contemporary circus. They merge their own stories and experiences with each others' into a colourful 90-minute feast of different circus disciplines.

SLAPSTICK SONATA

A darkened warehouse in Prague. The night shift goes through the motions of another tedious overnight. But all is not what it seems. Slowly, this group of late night laborers breaks out of their mundane routine, shedding their drab existence for a vibrant and glorious explosion of color, humor, movement, silliness, and physical theater.

Set to the music of Mozart, Handel, Shostakovich and others, Slapstick Sonata is an absurd yet poetic theater piece without text or words. Visual poetry meets physical comedy with a dash of contemporary circus… You will never think of your nightshift the same way!
